Mooresville - Day 1

The Holiday Home Repair project picked back up Tuesday, January 10th. With the home in Huntersville complete, a team from Saussy Burbank turned their attention to our HAMMERS client in Mooresville.

The homeowner and her son occupy the home. The main entry access, a small staircase leading to a back deck, had warped over time, causing the deck to pull away from the house. Work was well underway by the time DHC's Executive Director, Marcia Webster and HAMMERS Supervisor, David Hunt arrived. The old construction was completely removed from the home and new construction had just begun.

Posts dug into the ground will maintain the integrity of the porch through daily foot traffic.


New beams will keep the back porch stable.

Huntersville - Day 2

With day one wrapped up, work began right away this morning at our Huntersville home. The smell of freshly cut wood filled the air when DHC staff arrived at the site to help the contractors thaw with coffee and donuts.


A new ramp will extend out further into the driveway, enabling the homeowner to easily maneuver from a car to her home.





Strong posts will support the integrity of the new ramp for years to come.


The drop between the side door and the previous ramp no longer exists. The new construction is flush with both the front and side doors.





The homeowner eagerly anticipates warmer weather and the opportunity to enjoy watching her grandchildren play in her front yard. Outdoor chairs will comfortably fit on the porch shown below.

Huntersville - Day 1

Our first home repair of the season kicked off on Tuesday, January 3rd. Frigid temperatures didn't keep our contractors from beginning work, building new accesses for a elderly homeowner in Huntersville. The homeowner has 19 grandchildren who frequently visit her home, making a safe entryway critical to the livelihood of her family. Providing this HAMMERS beneficiary with new accessibility will create an increased quality of life. Last winter she was housebound for more than a week when the area experienced an accumulation of snow and ice. The new structures will provide sound means for her to enter and exit the home in any weather condition.

A brief description of the tasks to be completed at the home includes:

- Replacing the ramp at the side door (it is currently uneven and therefore, unstable)
- Replacing the floor at the front door entrance
- Installing new storm doors at the front and side entrances

Today, the contractors quickly got to work ripping out the old access to the side door.
